Teacher's Role and Challenges in Activity-Based Learning

Role of Teacher in Activity Method:

Teacher's Role and Challenges in Activity-Based Learning

1:- The role of a teacher in activity technique is very important. It is in fact the best practice to have the students actively participate in the teaching activity but a teacher should play a role of a leader in the completion of all this work. A teacher's experience is more mature and deeper than that of the students, and his knowledge is broader. For this reason, his guidance and diligence is not only important but also extremely necessary. When students go on a study trip, they need advice and guidance at every step. The teacher has to protect the students from doing any mistake and falling into any difficulty. Therefore, the teacher should be expert and trained in the selection of activity.

2:- The teacher is expected to help when help is needed. So the teacher should be an excellent guide who plays a role behind the scenes instead of representing himself on the stage because the stage is reserved for actors and actresses who are students. The teacher-student relationship should be closer and informal than traditional teaching. He should be like a friend or a mature-looking and experienced elder brother. He should be a guide and not a dictator. His scientific study should be comprehensive and scientific.

3:- A teacher must be deeply observant and empathetic. He should be able to win the sympathy of the students so that the students may not discouraged. He should have a wealth of knowledge and information to deal with the problems that arise and suggest solutions where necessary. He should keep the students respect infront so that they turn to him for help, guidance and sympathy. However, no technique is more important than the teacher. Therefore, there is a need for good education leaders(teachers).

4:- The teacher also has an important role to play in the activity method. He has to ensure that all students are working cooperatively. The basis of activity technique is cooperative teaching. It is believed that a teacher should have knowledge of many subjects. He should guide the selection and conduct of the activity in such a way that the knowledge related to it about many subjects can be provided and the gap can be filled

adequately. He should keept in mind that not only practical education is to be provided but a complete and comprehensive knowledge is to be provided. Group experience and participation should increase knowledge in specific contexts. For this, it is important that the students work on their own accord. Develop their own plan and do experience themselves. This gives children an opportunity to express themselves by doing something.

5:- In short, the teacher should spend adequate time for the success of this technique. Only a passionate and enthusiastic teacher can make this technique successful and not a demoralizing, time-consuming and clock-watching, work-stealing person who wastes his and the students' time. Collectively in activity based teaching the teacher plays the role of a facilitator and motivator. Therefore, the teacher's main focus should be on guiding students through questions that can guide them to explore personal conclusions about the subject.
