Navigating the Complex Terrain of Diplomacy: Objectives, Strategies, and Global Peace

Diplomacy:

The process of settling matters through mutual negotiation between states is called diplomacy. Diplomacy as a political strategy is now considered important for problem solving. In view of the current era conditions, the biggest problem of humanity is to maintain peace and order at the global level, so it is important to maintain better relations between the states instead of limiting their power. Bridging the gap of differences between states and unity for their long-lasting peace and creating an atmosphere of cooperation is possible through diplomacy or political strategy.

Objectives and Needs of Diplomacy:

Political thinkers have identified three basic objectives of diplomacy:

1:- For confusion.

2:-  For respite.

3:- For solving problems.

Diplomacy for confusion:

The first and foremost objective of diplomacy is to confuse the opposing side. In this method of diplomacy, a lot of effort is made to intimidate the opposing party by forcing them into unfavorable situations. Perhaps the best example of diplomacy being used to unsettle an adversary is the disarmament conferences that are held periodically between Russia and the United States. Sometimes disarmament efforts show that there is a genuine desire to reduce military spending. But there are many signs for which it can be suspected that these will not appear either. However, there must be expectations from them that one side will force the other side to refuse disarmament and thus show its objectives in front of the world.

Russia has several times made dramatic proposals for disarmament, but in practically it suppress the voice of peace, so it can be said that as long as this discrepancy between words and actions persists, the hypocrisy and doubt will remain amongst the countries.

Diplomacy as a source of respite:

Another objective of diplomacy is procuring time to implement the program according to one's plan. The parties use the means of deferred opportunity when one party offers immediate useful transfer of power relationship between two parties.

 Diplomacy for Resolving the Issues:

The main purpose of diplomacy in its original meaning is to maintain an atmosphere of trust through mutual negotiation, i.e. to resolve any kind of dispute between two parties through mutual discussion and agreement. Where the doors of dialogue are open, progress can be made towards solving problems through peace and stability, but where diplomacy fails, then the ravages of war destroy peace. The greater the tension between two or more powers in the international arena, the more attention is paid to negotiations. A clear proof of this is the negotiations between the United States and Russia whose main purpose has been to confuse the other side and gain time. However, in the final analysis, non-violence settlement of problems necessarily involves the third use of diplomacy.
