Concept of
Community of Practice:
There are 3 important basic components of the community,
the first component is the community itself, that is, the group of people,
while the second component is the domain, that is, what they want and what they
do, the third component is the practice. It means the work that they do.
The nature of
interrelationship of these three components is as follows.
1- The
Community:
In pursuit of their interests in their particular field,
people come together and participate in common activities and discussions,
during which they exchange information and help each other, they form special
relationships with each other to help each other. Sothat they can learn from each other. Having the same job or
position does not constitute a community, but to form a community it is
important for the members of community to establish relationship and to learn
from each other.
2- The
Domain:
Community of Practice is not just a club of people who
are related to each other, but it has its own identity, which is decided by
Domain of Interest. Therefore, its membership is closely related to the
particular sector. Common competencies of the members of practice community
distinguish them from others.
3- The
Practice:
A community of practice is not just a group of people
with similar interests, for example, a group of people who like a certain type
of films cannot be called a community of practice. Individuals in a community
of practice are closely related to each other over multiple interests and other
issues. They develop a common repertoire of resources, that is, their
experiences, stories, tools, approaches to problems, etc. are of a common
nature, in short all their practices are the same. It takes time and a lasting
relationship.
(i):-
Concept of practice:
Lave and Wenger introduced the concept of community of
practice in 1991, which emphasizes the strong connection of theory with the
social construction of knowledge. A community of practice consists of
individuals who interact with each other as a result of a common practice. Its
definition can be as,
(ii):-
Definition:
A community of practice is a group of individuals who are
bound together informally through joint efforts to identify and solve problems
of a common nature, thereby contributing to their own knowledge base share. The
term Community of Practice was coined for such a community which acts as a
living curriculum for the students. Once this concept is clear, such
communities can be seen everywhere even in the absence of traditional education
system and of course learning in a community of practice will not be limited to
the student.
