There are many factors to make teaching effective, the teacher should take special care of these factors in order to improve teaching.
Factors of Effective Teaching:
Gurney has identified five types of factors for effective teaching which are as follows:
1- Teacher's
knowledge, enthusiasm and responsibility for learning:
The best
classroom is one where both teachers and students share knowledge, the
teacher's job is not only giving knowledge,
but he himself learns a lot from the ideas of students during the process of
teaching and learning and talking with students. In such an educational
environment, both teachers and students go through the process of learning, and
explore the whole world of the subject being studied, in such an environment
the teacher shares knowledge with others and makes it enjoyable.
2- Classroom Activities that Encourage Learning:
In a classroom full of experiences and opportunities, students have the opportunity to learn and they do practical experiment. The learning process in such an environment is highly beneficial for the success, this increases the mastery of learning in the students.
In such classrooms,
teachers inclinations may influence outcomes, so it is important for the
teacher to be fully prepared to test the activities performed in the classroom.
In order to keep the students interested in the subject being studied and
engaged in the activities related to it, it is necessary to periodically
inspect and evaluate the activities, so that the students have a strong connection
with the subject.
3-
Assessment Activities that Encourage Learning Through Experience:
Assessment
plays an important role in creating effective learning processes. If the
student becomes aware of the value of assessment during the ongoing learning process
he will be able to involve in a better learning process and can get better
results.
The most effective
learning environments include peer tutoring, questioning, co-operative
learning, clarifying, and summarizing. All these factors enhance the learning
ability of the students, if assessment activities are included in the teaching process,
they become the central part of teaching process.
4-Successful
Feedback That Shapes the Classroom Learning Process:
Appropriate
learning feedback is the most important factor in effective teaching. Different
methods of feedback enables the teacher to engage students in learning. All
explanations, ways of questioning and
instructions are the part of feedback and student input. In an effective
classroom, students are eager to receive feedback on their performance, Alton Lee highlights the
value of feedback but warns that too much feedback is just as much too little
feedback is harmful. As much the teacher gets the feedback from students as
more he can act on it.
5. The teacher-student relationship that works well,
fostering an atmosphere that values, promotes, and stimulates experiential
learning:
Learning
is an emotional experience, students like objects and activities that appeal to
them emotionally, the teacher who creates a sense of personal involvement in
the classroom, and wants them to learn by involving the whole class, as well as
himself as a part of the learning process, is actually establishing a special
relationship with the students.
A work environment that is interactive makes the learning
process more rewarding by reducing the drudgery of labour.
