Lack of discipline in educational institutions
One of the most
important problems in the education problems of Pakistan is the is the lack of discipline of students in educational
institutions, due to which many other educational and social problems have
arisen. Especially the environment of educational institutions, the quality of
education and social behavior have been badly affected.
The general impression is that both students and teachers in
our educational institutions, especially government or semi-government
institutions, are not serious about teaching and learning. Values like
respect, compassion and tolerance are gradually decreasing in the nature of
students' relationships with each other and with teachers. Students and
teachers are forming into different groups. Despite having degrees, employment
is declining. This whole situation indicates a lack of discipline.
Discipline is an essential element for the successful
running of any home, society and country. Whether the affairs of life are
individual or collective, success is not possible without discipline. When we
want to do something, we have to follow certain rules and laws to do so, which
have very little interference of our will, for example, the opening and closing
hours of a college. Similarly, the procedure for carrying out curricular and
co-curricular activities is also an issue. These principles, rules and laws are
decided by the members of the society together with mutual consent.
Therefore, every member of the society is bound to follow
these rules and laws and he submits his personal will and intention to these
rules and regulations. Adhering to these principles and rules and acting
according to them is called discipline.
Traffic rules
prohibit crossing the road when the red signal is lit. It is a law and a rule to
stop if otherwise it will be violation of which and doing one's will is an
example of disorder.
Discipline in educational institutions also means that the
rules and regulations set by these institutions should be fully followed and no
one should violate them. In this way, subjecting one's will to the rules and
regulations set by the institution is called discipline.
In this process, the principal, teachers, students and
employees follow the set rules. In this regard, the most important
responsibility is that of the teachers and the principal to follow the rules
and regulations themselves and also to make the students follow them.
Violation of institution discipline is cognizable to
everyone including teachers and students. Every teacher knows what is his
responsibility and how he has to do it. Likewise, every student knows when,
where and under whose supervision he/she participates in whose activities and
what rules he/she has to follow.
Their main objective
is to prevent students from bad habits and actions so that their character can
be built better. Brief Discipline is the process of controlling one's behavior,
habits, actions and way of working in which the individual can perform all his
activities and actions according to the rules and norms set by his society or
institution.
We can observe the lack of discipline among the students
around us. They are engaged in such activities which on one hand are against
the discipline of educational institutions and on the other hand are not
compatible with social values and social norms.
The
following activities of the students indicate the lack of discipline in our
educational institutions:
Student protest processions and illegal meetings
Unexcused absence
from classes.
Boycott of classes.
Riot or boycott in examination centers.
Students becoming part of political party groupings.
Rude behavior towards teachers and principals.
