What is curriculum and its components?
Curriculum means path in English, it is called (Curriculum). The word Minhaj has appeared in the Holy Quran, which means path. On which teachers and students walk to reach their destination. In ancient times, curriculum refers to the list of subjects prescribed to be taught to the students of a particular class. This is how it is defined in the present day.
Curriculum is the set of experiences of the child that he or
she experiences in the school. Curriculum refers to the experiences that the
school uses to help achieve educational goals. (Dr. Akbar)
Curriculum components
All the sciences and arts, experiences, hobbies and other
accessories are part of the curriculum to carry out the education process. The
two major components of the curriculum are:
1.Content
The knowledge that man has acquired from various sources.
When it is given to teachers and students in the form of a book, it is called
material. This material is prepared keeping in mind the needs, abilities,
interests and emotions of the students. This material is generally prepared
according to the national social and economic needs of the society, the nation,
the ideology of life, the values of the state. So that the students are made
good citizens and international people of the future. Curriculum should have
this feature that it can meet the need of the future.
2- Co-curricular activities
Curriculum is actually a combination of two things which are
curricular activities and co-curricular activities. Co-curricular activities
reinforce the curriculum and facilitate its teaching. They play an important
role in building and forming the personality of the students. These improve the
character and character of the students. They play an important role in
improving their health. Generally, there are no regular examinations of
co-curricular activities, but some co-curricular activities are examined, both
of which are called curriculum.
Importance of Curriculum
Curriculum is the heart of education. If the curriculum is
removed from the process of education, the rest of the process ends
automatically. Curriculum editing is very important to achieve them. The
following headings are given to clarify the importance of the syllabus:
1- Ease of teaching process
According to the modern concept, various activities are
organized under a comprehensive plan to achieve the educational objectives in
the curriculum. Teachers take help from the organization of the curriculum to
fulfill their duties and achieve specific objectives. The academic and
recreational activities of the students are based on the curriculum and the
time table of the seminary is prepared based on it. The selection of the same
subject of the curriculum is prepared according to the needs, interests and
development of the children, which makes it possible for the teacher to
continue the teaching process in a pleasant environment. Modern curriculum has
proved that the same subject was considered difficult for students not long
ago. Now the same subject can be taught in a simple and meaningful way to the
students at their young age.
2-Communication skills
The main purpose of communication is to communicate one's
thoughts and viewpoints effectively to others and create understanding. This is
impossible without interaction and correlation. Language is the best medium of
communication and language is impossible without curriculum. An educated person
influences others only through communication. He changes the character of his
friends, colleagues and relatives only through communication.
3- Fulfillment of economic needs of children in the curriculum
They are given various skills and professions to lead a
better life. Children master them through education and lead a successful
future life. If the curriculum cannot meet the economic needs, the next
generation will not be able to become self-sufficient and useful citizens. They
will not be able to adopt legitimate, halal and profitable means and methods.
4.Coordination and continuity in activities
The process of education continues throughout life. It is
especially high from childhood to adulthood. Every stage of life is connected
with each other. Therefore, linkage and continuity in educational activities is
very important.
While preparing the curriculum, it is kept in mind that
there should be continuity in education. Primary, secondary and higher
education should be integrated with each other so that the students can easily take
steps towards their mental and moral growth without any difficulty and wastage of
time.
5. Comprehensive development of students
Thanks to the curriculum, a better and conducive atmosphere
is created for education. The boundaries of the educational experiences are
defined and the teacher is better able to guide the students. The goal is set
before the students. The teacher is aware of the problems of the students and
adopts ways to involve the students in the lesson. In this way holistic
development of students becomes possible.
6- National Objectives
Curriculum is the main means of achieving the national goals
of education, because whatever practical work is done in educational
institutions for imparting knowledge and training the new generation is owed to
education. With the help of curriculum, the nation achieves its practical
scientific and technical goals.
7- Grasping the speed of development of the times
In order to support the contemporary requirements, it is
very important that every country keeps a close eye on the rapid development of
the times and with the social changes as the knowledge, scientific and
technical needs of the nation increase. According to these needs, without
delay, the process of modifying and reforming the education curriculum should
continue. No country can ignore this need. In this way, the curriculum fulfills
our practical need to grasp the progress of the times.
8.Student guidance
Students have to gradually reach a destination through education. Curriculum guides the student and informs him whether he is progressing towards the goal or going backwards. The curriculum of every level creates a pleasant atmosphere for him. And encourages him that the destination is near.
9.Teacher guidance
Where the curriculum guides students, it is a beacon for teachers. It guides the teachers to teach from a certain point of view. What are the practical tasks to be done by the students and what will be the results after each stage? In this way they guide the students on a certain line.
